Ahoy! ~Tasty Dish~ and Cookgirl welcome you aboard the Rusty Oyster!

I am still waiting for my calligraphy set to arrive so that I can fill out my About Me page!

Until then:

-Happy Thoughts
-Yo ho, yo ho a pirate's life for me!
-think, think, think!
-I don't wanna grow up, I'm a ToysRUs kid
-Mike Wazowski!
-To Infinity and beyond
-We meet again, Dr. Jones
-What about glitter? When I was a headliner in Paris, audiences always liked it when I sparkled.
-Dolores, I have five days to complete this picture. Don't get goofy on me!
-Welcome to the Caribbean, love!
- Live long and prosper
-there's no place like home
- I do believe in fairies, I do believe in fairies!
-Second star to the right, and straight on 'til morning
-When you wish upon a star, your dreams come true
-And they call him, Sandy... Clawssss...! -May the Force be with you...!

(Actually, all you need to know about me is I love Disneyland.)

While in the neighborhood, please check out my daughter ~Tasty Dish's~ recipes! Please note that as of 4 September 2008 ~Tasty~ and I share the same account. To find her recipes easier I've compiled them in her own cookbook: ~Tasty Dish's~ Recipes. Also, if you wish to send ~Tasty~ a message, I will relay it to her for you. ¡Viva ~Tasty~!

Update: Her Wonderfulness ~Tasty Dish~ and I have joined forces and have opened the CGTD Culinary Arts' Institute here in beautiful Oregon. Please remember to sign our guestbook upon exiting the building. For all card-carrying Executive Members of CGTD Culinary Arts' Institute, instant coffee (Sanka) and donuts are provided in the lobby ($5 donation suggested).

If you ever need to find me on 'Zaar, look no further than either the Community Cafè or the Craft Forum. Those are about the only two forums I haven't been kicked out of and/or membership revoked.

Pardon the dust...pixie dust...

Favorite Foods:

Buy locally, eat seasonally (bring a doggie bag or Gladware)-Cookgirl

Likes: Traditional American and comfort food such as macaroni and cheese, apple pie, etc. Mexican, Spanish, Middle Eastern, Mediterranean/Greek, countrified French, , vegetarian and vegan, etc. Fresh, fresh, fresh!

I love domestic and imported quality cheeses produced by artisan cheesemakers! Slide me some of that feta. A chunk of Oregon Bleu would be lovely, thank you. Yes please, I will have more of that cave aged gruyere.

Favorite herbs: fresh herbs such as basil, lavender, sage, mint, lovage, salad burnet, etc.

Favorite spices: saffron, sumac, cinnamon, cracked black pepper, *cardamom*!!, cumin, etc. (Too many more to mention.)

We have good wine here in Oregon. Add to that list hazelnuts, exceptional fresh produce, seafood, wild-harvested mushrooms, marionberries, etc. I don't take it for granted.

If I get a whiff of a farmer's market in progress I will be there, no doubt about it. If I'm not buying produce I'm photographing it.

I'd like to mention my favorite kitchen utensil is a stainless steel KitchenAid coffee grinder that I use only for blending herbs, chopping nuts, whirling this and that. I own two coffee grinders: one for grinding coffee only and the other for the above mentioned use. It's a smart, inexpensive investment.

~Tasty Dish~ waxes poetic over: New York or rib eye steak (especially Steak Diane), fresh herbs including thyme, golden sage and French tarragon, imported cheese including fromage St. Pauline du Quèbec
and Idiazabal Euskera and finally Gerber Puffs (strawberry/banana.)

CG Dislikes: Eggplant and milk "straight up" and I really dislike American-style pizza. Heavily processed foods are another big no-no. We don't buy bottled salad dressing, or seasoning mixes, canned soup, tv dinners, frozen pizza, ad nauseum...

Dried cilantro: yuck. Same with dried basil. yuck. We won't even mention offal. That's a given.

~Tasty Dish~ dislikes: nothing yet-perhaps lentils. Come to think of it, she's not too hip on citrus.

In our household we subscribe to the (almost lost) tradition of sitting down at the dining table for all our meals. This means: no television, no cell phones/telephones, no distractions.

I guess you could say I have strong views and opinions with food. Excuse me, I must return to my bag of wasabi-flavored Funyons and canned tamales...to be continued...
